Pre-Purchase
Inspection

An hour before you buy is worth more than any amount of hoping afterwards.

Bring it in if

Any of this sounds familiar.

A private-party vehicle you are about to pay for

A dealer vehicle sold “as-is”

A vehicle that looks right and feels slightly wrong

A long-distance purchase you cannot inspect yourself

A price that seems too good

A vehicle you intend to keep for years

Why the seller’s word isn’t the problem

Most people selling a vehicle are not lying. They simply don’t know. The previous owner didn’t tell them about the deferred maintenance, and nothing on the dashboard has complained yet.

An inspection is not an accusation. It is somebody with a lift and no stake in the sale telling you what the next two years of ownership are likely to cost.

What we look at

  • On the lift: leaks, suspension and steering components, exhaust, undercarriage and frame condition
  • Brakes measured, not eyeballed — pad and rotor thickness against specification
  • Tires: depth, age, and whether the wear pattern is telling you something
  • Fluids and their condition, and whether the service history matches what we see
  • Stored fault codes and readiness monitors — including codes recently cleared
  • Cooling system, belts, hoses and battery condition
  • A road test, because some faults only exist at speed

What you get

A straight conversation: what is wrong now, what will need attention within a year, what it will roughly cost, and whether any of it is a reason to walk away. If the vehicle is good, we will tell you that too — that is also a useful answer.

Bring the listing and, if the seller has them, the service records. Arrange a window when the seller will release the vehicle for an hour or two; most reasonable sellers will.

Proof, from customers

★★★★★

“He checked out our old, high mileage Subaru and gave us great advice and charged us an extremely reasonable price to top up all our fluids and change our oil. Met two other people that were waiting for service that also sang his praises and were regular customers.”

★★★★★

“I took my vehicle in today for standard maintenance, underbody inspection and tire rotation. Extremely happy with the professionalism, service and integrity.”

Questions

Pre-Purchase Inspection, answered.

How long does an inspection take, and what does it cost?

Plan on the vehicle being with us for a couple of hours. Call for the current rate. confirm rate

Can the seller be present?

Yes, and it is often easier that way. What we tell you, we will say in front of anybody.

Will you tell me whether to buy it?

We will tell you what the vehicle needs and what it is likely to cost. The decision is yours, and we have nothing riding on it either way.

What if I have already bought it?

Bring it in anyway. Knowing what is ahead of you is still better than finding out on the highway.
