Subaru Repair
in Santa Fe
Santa Fe is full of Subarus, and the ones that last are the ones whose owners stayed ahead of them.
All-wheel drive is why Subarus are everywhere in northern New Mexico, and all-wheel drive is also what makes maintenance non-negotiable on them. The system does not tolerate neglect the way a front-wheel-drive car will.
A well-kept Outback, Forester or Crosstrek will run for a very long time. The difference between one that does and one that doesn’t is almost always a maintenance schedule somebody either kept or didn’t.
What these vehicles ask for
The work that keeps a Subaru worth owning.
Head gaskets and oil leaks
The boxer layout is known for this on older EJ engines, and the symptoms are easy to miss early. Catching a weeping gasket is a different job to catching a failed one.
AWD driveline
Differential and transmission fluids, CVT fluid service on newer models, and matched tire wear — mismatched tires genuinely damage AWD drivetrains.
Wheel bearings and axles
A humming noise that changes with speed is worth diagnosing rather than living with. CV boots crack, and a split boot is cheap next to a failed axle.
Timing belts on older engines
An interval, not a suggestion. On an interference engine a snapped belt is an engine.
Cooling systems
Radiators, hoses, thermostats and coolant condition. A boxer engine that overheats does not forgive it.
Suspension for dirt roads
Struts, bushings, control arms and sway bar links, on vehicles that get used the way Subarus get used here.
General service knowledge for these vehicles, not a claim of factory certification. What your vehicle needs depends on its own history — which is what the diagnosis is for.
Instead of the dealership
Dealership-level attention. Local-shop honesty.
You talk to the mechanic who is going to work on your Subaru. You get told what needs doing now, what can wait, and what doesn’t need doing at all. And the estimate holding is the thing our customers keep writing about.

Questions
Subaru, answered.
Do you work on Subarus regularly?
Yes. One review on this site describes a high-mileage Subaru brought in expecting a long list of work, and given advice, topped-up fluids and an oil change instead.
Should I be worried about the head gasket on my Subaru?
On an older EJ-series engine it is worth having checked rather than worried about. We can tell you whether yours is showing early signs, and what the options are if it is.
Do tires really matter on an AWD Subaru?
Yes, more than most people expect. Significantly mismatched tire diameters load the centre differential continuously. It is one of the most expensive avoidable repairs on the car.

Diagnosis, scheduled service or a second opinion on somebody else’s estimate. You don’t have to know what’s wrong — that’s the job.
